In the summer of 2008, much of the northern California was covered in a thick blanket of smoke due to existing wildfires. Yet amid hazy conditions, the story of The Eskalets was born.
Mama Bird named her four baby robins eskalets. What lessons will the eskalets learn? Who is the girl by the window? A captivating story about the value of family, the way to deal with loss and struggle, and the journey to independence. |

Reviews
The Eskalets is a delightful story for all ages. It is remarkably charming and delicate, as only Chrissi could write it. The kids will love it!!! (Opie R. Houston, B.S., MA., English and Literature Instructor, Austin Community College, Austin, Texas)
The Eskalets is a unique look into the life of a family of birds as experienced through the eyes of "a young girl at the window." The accompanying story gives children a much needed invitation into our natural world, and an introduction to a process that is happening in trees all around them. I look forward to sharing this DVD with my nieces and nephews - I know they will be delighted. It sure made me smile! (Kirsten Cliff, writer, nature lover, and former teacher’s aide, New Zealand)
Photographing birds in the wild is a challenge. But Chrissi Villa creatively shares the documentation of the birth and growth of four robins till they leave their nest through the story of “The Eskalets”. Through her gift of keen observation, Chrissi remarkably gives each robin distinct human qualities. “The Eskalets” is tale of familial love that every one can relate to. (R. Consunji, bird watcher, photographer, sailor, and outdoor enthusiast, Stamford, CT)
As a poet and children’s author, Christine L. Villa has proven herself an artist. To Mark A. Galang’s piano music, this is the story of four baby robins learning to live and a little girl who learns along with them. To be a family... to learn life, love, loss and independence is the Eskalets. (Sandi Pray, retired librarian, poet, and WHA Master haiga artist, Robbinsville, NC)
